Too Old To Learn To Skateboard

Too Old To Learn To Skateboard
I'm a 17 year old girl and I wanna learn to skateboard....advice??

Ok, so I've pretty much always wanted to learn, but I've been thinking about it really seriously lately. So...what should I know? I was thinking of like, finding a skate shop and asking them to help me pick one out and then just asking them to show me how to move on it without falling on my butt and then practice on my own and check out youtube and figure out some other, basic tricks and other stuff. I'm not really looking to learn really amazing, advanced tricks, (not yet...haha.) I would just like to be able to get around on one and get outside and learn some simple tricks and ENJOY IT. (That's the main point, right there.)
So I was wondering....: what kind of stuff should I know as a novice/beginner?
What should I expect to pay for one? (Keep in mind, I'm just starting out, so I don't want to buy the cadillac of skateboards right away. But not the cheapest one either.)
And....do you think it's odd that I want to learn because of my gender/age? (Just casually wondering.)

You alreadIy know a lot, skate shops are great place to get advice and they'll let you know exactlly what you need for a board. You're already on the right track not trying to rush into everything. Expect to pay at a skateshop $100-$150 for a good setup, or just find out what they use for parts and buy it only for a fraction of the cost.
It's deffinatlly not odd for you to learn to skate at your age and gender, there are many girl skatebaorders and your age doesn't matter I know of a 56 year old woman who started out skateboarding a couple years ago because her grandchildren got her into it lol. Get a board and practice a lot and you'll be fine.
